New METALS Bootcamps for Iowans aged 14 and up!

The University of Northern Iowa’s Metal Casting Center is seeking adults and high school students aged 14+ to participate in a free 4-day metal casting experience.  Learn the ins and outs of metalcasting by packing and pouring from an existing cast, learning how to model a new design, simulating casting with different alloys, and casting a custom creation. The METAL Bootcamp is designed to give anyone from a high school student to an engineer, a teacher to a retiree their first experience in a working foundry and to inspire more Iowans to discover careers in this growing industry.

METAL Bootcamps take place in the University of Northern Iowa Metal Casting Center (MCC) in partnership with the Metallurgical Engineering Trades Apprenticeship & Learning (METAL) program, led by IACMI – The Composites Institute®.

Bootcamps are free. Registration is required and limited to only 16 seats per bootcamp.  Applicants must be at least 14 years of age and complete a free pre-requisite online workshop before the first day of camp.  For the safety of all participants, bootcamp has a dress code (see registration for details).

If you want to have fun while learning new and valuable skills, METAL Bootcamp is for you.  Sign up for the first UNI METAL Bootcamp on October 5-8, 2026 or visit the MCC website to learn more and see future dates.
